Friends make a big part of our lives, but some friendships can become our worst nightmare. We all need someone to share our joy and saddest moments. The feeling of being loved, accepted and celebrated add flavor to our lives. If you are so trusting like I, you probably might have gotten yourself hurt for trusting the wrong person. Being stabbed in the back by someone you cherish as a friend is not something we see in movies only but happens every day. Are you not sure about the friendship you are in at the moment? Here is how you know:
- They are jealous of your progress
Ever felt like not telling a friend about your success because they would get angry? Toxic friends will shutter every type of progress you make. They will make you feel like you are not good enough and trying is a waste of time. The truth is they wish they were like you.
- They make sarcastic jokes when you talk about your goals.
Toxic friends do not wish you any good in life. They will put in so much effort to make sure you give up on your goals. Talking about your goals might scare a toxic person. Even toxic people understand that a visionary person will eventually make it. They will comment things such as: “are you sure you can make it? People like you will always be this way”. Being close to such friends can kill your future.
- They do not respect your boundaries.
Everybody has boundaries that need to be respected. Some people do not care about such; they will step into your private life and embarrass you publicly. These type of friends will open their mouths about your secrets and personal life to whoever they meet.
- They make you feel guilty for not putting their needs first.
One thing about toxic friends is that they are selfish. They will always put themselves first in every situation. In their mind, you are more like a robot, someone that can fix all their problems even if you also have things to deal with in your own life. Regardless of being there for them all the time, they are never there for you.
- They dismiss your feelings.
A toxic friend will not admit their mistakes when confronted. Instead, they will accuse you of being the cause of their evil actions. In addition, they do not take your feelings seriously. Whenever you open up to them, they will laugh about it as if it was merely a joke.
- You feel emotionally drained by interacting with them.
Being around toxic friends can leave you feeling hopeless and unsatisfied. The energy that surrounds such people is full of jealousy, negativity, and selfishness. The best but challenging decision to make is to walk away from such relationships. Encircle yourself with people that emotionally charge you and support your dreams.
